So many people are into health these days, I think even more so since it is the beginning of a new year. Most people make a resolution to loose some weight or go to the gym, and these are very good resolutions. Did you ever consider making a resolution to take care of your skin? It could be one of the best things you could do for yourself this year. Skin care and skin health are not as popular , but it could even save your life.

Great skin health starts with cleanliness. How you clean your skin can have a dramatic effect on the quality of your skin. using soaps that are too harsh for your skin type can leave your skin itchy and dry. Dry skin always is more likely to have very small breaks in it, allowing infections and bacteria to get in and start growing. Remember the MRSA scare? We don’t talk about how to prevent MRSA much anymore, but it is still very much out there and can be a real pain, so to speak. A few years ago , I was in a prominent hospital for a meeting having to do with my job, and I picked up a skin infection that lasted about 6 months. The only way I got rid of it was with a very strong antibiotic, Levaquin. Clean your skin well.

The second thing you can do this new year is to resolve to use sun screen. So many people think that tans look great (and they really do) but not at your skin’s expense. Try using the bronzing lotions that you can buy at the local pharmacy. These work really well and can also moisturize your skin at the same time. Staying out of the sun in the hottest part of the day should be your goal.

Finally, great skin health means seeing a dermatologist , every few years for a thorough check up. If you have any genetic predisposition toward skin cancer you may need to go every year. Only a dermatologist knows how to inspect each and every mole and freckle to make sure they are not cancerous. Your skin is your largest organ, take care of it in your healthy resolutions.
