Signs of Menopause: A Natural Change of Life

Menopause is the process that a women’s body goes through when the ovaries produce less of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone and when the female menstrual period disappears.  Menopause is a natural fact of a woman’s life.  Some women will have signs of menopause for a few months, while other women will feel the effects of menopause for a few years.  Menopause affects all women differently.  Some women will have little or no symptoms while others will suffer with more severe symptoms and may have more trouble dealing with the effects of menopause.

There are many signs of menopause. The first symptom that you might have is a change in your period, your period might become irregular and you might find that the flow of your menstrual period will change.  It might become heavier and last for a longer amount of time than normal or you might find that it lasts for fewer days and is lighter than normal.  Another sign you might f ind is that you could possibly have spott

ing in between menstrual periods.

Another common sign of menopause is hot flashes.  A hot flash is described as a sudden rush of head in your body.  For some women they describe it has happening in only the top half of their body where other women describe a hot flash as being throughout their entire body.  Many women will feel the urge to open a window or change their clothing. Another sign that is common during menopause is vaginal dryness and bladder issues.  Some women might find that intercourse is uncomfortable and that they have frequent urinary tract infections.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you could possibly be going through menopause.  Be warned that until you experience a full year of no menstrual period it is still possible to become pregnant.  Make sure to take proper precautions to avoid pregnancy if you do not wish to have a child.  If you suspect you are going through menopause make an appointment to see your physician, with a simple test, your doctor can tell you whether your hormone levels are changing.
