Rosacea Treatment Tips: Avoid these 7 Triggers

If you have rosacea, it’s a fact of life that there are many “rosacea triggers” in the environment and in life that need to be avoided or reasonably minimized in order to better control the severity of symptoms caused by rosacea. It might not be fun or enjoyable dealing with this reality, but nevertheless, it’s the way it is. The best course of action is to understand what triggers effect you and leverage your actions to minimize and control them as much as possible. In this way, you will control your rosacea, and not the other way around.

With this pep talk fresh on our minds, let’s look at 7 triggers to keep in mind for avoiding and minimizing so you can live life feeling better. These are things you should do in conjunction with a professionally drawn out treatment plan that also might include things such as rosacea laser treatments and prescription medication. But these 7 triggers are identified at the Rosacea Treatment Guide as some of the most common of all triggers, so let’s see what we can do to minimize their effects.

1. Cardio Exercise
Intense cardio workouts heat up the body enough to where it can cause facial flushing and other familiar symptoms. You’d do better to exercise at a slow or moderate pace.

2. Hot Tubs
Hot tubs are a luxury that just cannot be enjoyed by those with sensitive skin. There is no solution here other than to avoid getting in them.

3. Coffee
Hot coffee is another common trigger. There are two solutions here – drink iced coffee or just don’t drink coffee at all.

4. Teas
Hot teas create the same problem as hot coffees. Luckily there are quite a few teas that are good cold, including green tea – which actually has beneficial properties for health in general and rosacea specifically. Drink up!

5. Drinking Too Much Alcohol
Moderate alcohol intake usually isn’t a problem, but drink too much and you not only get the hangover everyone else gets, but you also get a nice increase in those pesky rosacea symptoms, such as hot burning face or a break out of pastules. Drink a little bit or none at all to avoid this problem.

6. The Sun
Exposure to the sun is probably the most universal rosacea trigger. Stay indoors at the worst of times, and when outdoors, protect yourself with sun screen lotion, hats, umbrellas, and light weight full length clothing.

7. Cold Wind
Getting snapped in the face with cold wind is painful even for those without rosacea.

But if you do have rosacea, it’s a real problem as it can nearly instantly flare up your rosacea symptoms. Stay indoors if you can but if you must go out, protect yourself from the elements with lots of clothes, hats, and scarves.
