How to find Relief for Joint Pain?

A large proportion of the population will suffer aches in the form of arthritis at some point in their lives.  It is thought that around half of the population over the age of 65 suffers from some form of arthritis and are searching for relief. Joint pain can negatively effect daily life.

In addition, arthritis can set in much younger in certain situations.  If a person is obese or has had a traumatic joint injury or septicemia, arthritis can occur at any age. Muscle pain is common in people of any age.  In athletic people, it can be the result of a sporting related injury.  In others, it can simply be the result of poor posture or of sleeping in an uncomfortable position. Whether you have arthritis, muscular aches, or pains in your knee, joint pain relief can often be achieved in the same way.

In cases of acute injury, the best thing to do is to apply a cold pack.  Don’t place ice directly onto the skin as this can cause freeze burns.  Instead, wrap the ice in a towel.  Apply this to the injured area to reduce pain and swelling.

After the initial injury or in more chronic conditions, pharmacological intervention is the key.  Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and paracetamol are very useful in these situations.  These can be taken orally but drugs like ibuprofen can also be purchased in sprays, creams, and poultices that can be applied to the painful area directly for more localized pain relief.

Although there are, many things you can do yourself for muscle and joint pain relief, it is best to get advice from your doctor to ensure you are treating your pain in the safest and most effective way possible.  For more chronic pain like that caused by arthritis, lifestyle changes such as weight loss and increasing exercise can also play a very important role in easing your pain.  Remember: there is no need to live with pain.  If you are suffering from muscle and joint pain relief can be found if you just seek medical advice.
