Figuring Plastic Surgery Costs

The cost of plastic surgery depends on a number of factors. The main determinants to the cost are the part of the body to be treated, the type of procedure, the technique used and the geographical location of the clinic. In general, larger areas will cost more to treat for obvious reasons. The type of procedure to be performed and the technique determines what equipment might be necessary which will influence cost. All these costs are relative to other clinics in the same geographical location because the prices depend on the cosmetic surgery market in the region.

Plastic surgery cost for larger body areas will be more than smaller areas. This is because larger areas will take more time and effort to fully treat.

The cost will also be influenced by the number of areas in one session. Getting multiple areas treated at once will cost less than multiple individual sessions. For those considering treatment to more than one area of the body it is a good idea to try and plan them in one session if possible.

Since some procedures are more delicate or difficult to perform, the type of procedure will definitely influence the cost of plastic surgery. Non-surgical procedures, injections, and chemical peels tend to be cheaper than surgical procedures since there is much less risk of serious complication.

Large scale operations will required the patient to be fully sedated with general anesthesia while patients of smaller treatments will only need local anesthesia. The anesthesia fee makes up a big part of the final bill and patients are charged for the amount of the solution used during the plastic surgery procedure. Higher doses not only cost more for the solution but also because the administration will require a certified anesthesiologist.

Most clinics will initially quote and advertise only the surgeon’s fee since this is probably the only fee that is an item in every procedure. There are many more types of costs that have to be added in for each procedure.

The use of the surgery room is usually called the facility fee and can cost $500 to $2000 per session. Anesthesia will cost most patients approximately one thousand dollars. Any special equipment or tool used during the surgery will usually be included to the facility fee or itemized individually.
