You scratch your head. Then you see some white stuff fall off. And you know what that means. You have dandruff. But what causes dandruff? What makes your scalp itch badly? What makes those white flakes fall on your clothes?

What is Dandruff?

Almost everyone, at least at one point of their lives, has experienced having dandruff. Dandruff is a skin condition that may arise on any area of the skin where hair grows. It usually occurs in the scalp but are as such

healthnet federal credit routing code

as the ears, nose, beards, eyebrows, and chest area. Dandruff is a common chronic scalp problem that is characterized by flaking of the skin on the scalp and itching of the scalp. These flakes are the ones that you see falling on your shoulder. In some cases, redness may also occur.

Causes of Dandruff

There are several things that may cause dandruff. The following are the causes of dandruff:
• Overproduction of dead skin cells. This is the most common cause of dandruff. Your skin naturally sheds off dead skin cells from time to time. But in some people, there is an abnormal production of and shedding of these dead skin cells.
• Dry skin. You have probably noticed how easily your skin flakes off when it is dry. The same goes with your scalp. When the skin in your scalp gets very dry, tiny white flakes form and are shed off. The dandruff flakes you get with dry skin are less oily, if not oily at all, compared to dandruff caused by other things.

• Not enough shampoo. Oil and dirt builds up through time. And if you don’t wash your hair regularly and properly you will end up with a lot of dead skin cells and oils in your scalp. This build up will lead to dandruff.

• Contact dermatitis. Contact dermatitis is another term for sensitivity to certain products. When you are sensitive to certain products or their ingredients, you are most likely to end up with some allergic reactions. Take for example paraphenylene diamine (PPD). PPD is an ingredient of hair care products and hair dyes. It can cause red, itchy, and scaling scalp. Using too much styling products and shampooing too often can irritate your scalp and cause dandruff.

• Seborrheic dermatitis. This skin condition is one of the most frequent causes of dandruff. Seborrheic dermatitis is characterized by red, greasy skin with flaky white or yellow scales. Seborrheic dermatitis is also known as irritated, oily skin and can affect areas other than the scalp, such as the sides of the nose, back of the ears, eyebrows, armpits, groin area, and breastbone.

• Malassezia. Malassezia is a yeast-like fungus that grows on the scalps of most healthy adults. But this fungus may grow out of control by feeding on the oils present in your scalp. This can lead to a skin irritation and cause more skin cells to grow. This abundant production of new skin cells causes an increase in the production of dead cells as well. And with this, dead cells in your scalp accumulate, clump, and flake off, giving you dandruff. Dandruff due to malassezia resembles that of seborrheic dermatitis and there is no exact known cause of the overgrowth of malasezzia.

• Psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin condition wherein there is an accumulation of dead skin cells that form thick scales. Psoriasis usually occurs on the knees and elbows but it may also affect your scalp. The accumulation of dead skin cells on your scalp is a precursor of dandruff.

• Eczema. Eczema is another skin condition that can occur on your scalp and lead to dandruff, just like psoriasis.

• Diet. Your overall health highly depends on your diet. What you eat and what you don’t eat affect how your body
performs and the condition of your skin. Some experts say that people who don’t consume enough B vitamins, zinc, and certain fats are more prone to having dandruff.

• Mental stress. Just like diet, mental stress affects your skin condition. Poor skin is more likely to develop dandruff than healthy skin.

There are many different possible causes of dandruff. But all of these can be remedied by changing some habits and your diet.

A survey done by the Pew Research Center on tattoo in 2006 revealed that there are about 36% of those ages 18 to 25 and 40% of those ages 26 to 40 have at least one tattoo. This number is now increasing because of the heightened interest of the public in having a tattoo. On the bad side, the number of those who wanted to remove their tattoo is also significantly increasing. One method being used to remove a tattoo is called laser tattoo removal. How much does laser tattoo removal cost?

A tattoo is a marking of the dermis layer by an indelible ink to change the skin pigment and at the same time create an art. Tattooing in humans are primarily done for decorative purposes while for animals, it is done for identification. This practice of inserting ink on the skin has been around for centuries already. Tattooing has been a primary component of Eurasian practice and is found to exist since the Neolithic times. There are also discovered mummies in Ancient Egypt and Ukok Plateau which have tattoo in their body and these mummies are believed to date back from the end of the second millennium BC.\

5 Types of Tattoos

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, there are about 5 types of tattoos namely natural tattoos or traumatic tattoos, amateur tattoos, professional tattoos, cosmetic tattoos and medical tattoos.

1. Natural or Traumatic Tattoos. Tattoos of this type are a result of accident or trauma such as entrance of coal dust into a coal miner’s wound or gunpowder in a sheriff’s wound. The coal dust and gunpowder leaves a permanent dark mark on the skin which looks like a tattoo. Same goes when asphalt is rubbed on the wound or a pencil led accidentally inserted or injected on the skin. Natural or traumatic tattoos are very difficult to remove because of the chemicals in the coal dust, gunpowder or asphalt tends to spread deep down the skin.

2. Amateur Tattoos. This refers to tattoos that are made just for fun or for decorative purposes. There is no important meaning or significance on it.

3. Professional Tattoos. This refers to tattoos that are made for an important reason such as those made for religious purposes, occupational purposes (marking made in accordance to the position of the person in the society or in a business), and cultural tattoos.

4. Cosmetic Tattoos. This type of tattoo is very popular to women. Cosmetic tattoos are done to resemble make up so that women who gets tired of putting up their make up every day could just wash their face off and then go to work.

healthnet federal credit routing code

There are also cosmetic tattoos which are made to hide skin discolorations. The lips, eye lids, and eye brows are some of the areas in the face that are being tattooed for beauty purposes.

5. Medical. This type of tattoo is used as marking especially for those who will be undergoing a special procedure such as radiotherapy or breast augmentation. It can also be used to convey medical information about the person (e.g. blood group) and to cover skin pigmentations such as in vitiligo.

The process of tattooing involves breaking the skin and injecting a foreign body to it (indelible ink). With that, the risk or acquiring infection and allergic reaction is not uncommon. Hepatitis, HIV, fungal infection, staph, herpes simplex virus, and tetanus are some of the infections that can be acquired through tattooing especially if the equipments being used are not sterilized well and the person who is carrying out the tattoo process does not observe certain precautions. It is best to ascertain first whether the artist or the person doing the tattoo is trained so to ensure safety.

The inks being used in tattooing are all hypoallergenic but still there are some who tend to react to some components such as nickel. Nickel is a common ink pigment that can cause local to systemic allergic reactions. Prior to undergoing a tattoo, it is best to determine first whether you have an allergy to this component.

Tattoo Removal

Tattoo removal is not uncommon these days. There are many ways to remove tattoos and some of these are through excision (removal of the skin), dermabrasion (scraping of the skin), laser (a laser is used to break up the tattoo ink on the skin) and salabrasion (the skin is rubbed aggressively with a salt or salt sanding block). The effectiveness of these procedures depends on the depth of the ink and the colors used. The deeper and the darker the ink, the more difficult the removal process will be.

Among the different methods used to remove a tattoo, the most common is the laser removal. Here, a laser beam is used and is manipulated by the surgeon. The laser beam has different width and different wavelength (or color) which can accommodate different sizes and colors of tattoo. The technique in using a laser beam is precise focusing so to prevent damaging the surrounding skin.

How much Does Laser Tattoo Removal Cost?

The size of the tattoo determines the length of the treatment. Larger tattoos are much harder to remove thus would need more laser sessions than the smaller tattoos. Smaller tattoos can be removed in just two sessions while larger ones may exceed more than six sessions. Those who underwent laser removal described their sensation during the procedure as a rubber band snapping on the skin. After the procedure, a mild sunburn may be felt. The tattoo will not be completely removed but will just become lighter. The cost of a laser tattoo removal can range from $100 (small and single colored tattoo) to $500 (large and multicolored tattoo) per session. It should be noted that the price of tattoo removal depends on the competency of the one removing it, the equipment, and other materials that will be used (such as anesthesia). You can always talk to your surgeon or dermatologist of choice for more updated pricing of laser tattoo removal. Always check the certificates or license of the one removing your tattoo to ensure safety and professional management.

They are not as obvious as acne are, but if you look closely, you can see those tiny black dots on your nose and even on your cheeks. They form when there is an excess amount of oil, or sebum, in the pores. The oil, dirt, and dead skin cells mix together, forming a plug in the pores. And as the tip of the plug oxidizes, it becomes black and is now what we call blackheads. Blackheads are definitely unsightly but this skin problem can cause more worry than just a bad close up of your face.

What are Blackheads?

Blackheads are actually a type of acne. If the blackheads get infected, they can turn into pimples. So before your blackheads turn into pimples, here are some tips on how to remove blackheads from your nose.

How to get rid of Blackheads?

There are various ways to get rid of those stubborn blackheads from your nose. And one of the common ways is to use a nose pore strip, or a nose strip. Using a nose strip is simple. Just remember to wash your face prior to using the nose strip. Wet your nose and dry your hands, then peel off the nose strip from the packaging. Place the sticky side of the strip on your nose. You might have to wet it again after placing the strip on your nose, depending on the brand of the nose strip you are using. Allow the strip to dry for some time, around 10 to 15 minutes. And once the strip is dry like papier-mâché, peel it off your nose. And if you will take a close look at the nose strip, you will see the blackheads, as well as the whiteheads, sticking up.

Home Remedies for removing Blackheads

If you cannot find any commercially sold nose strips in the market, you can prepare your own remedy that works very much like those nose strips. You can use egg whites and toilet paper like a nose strip. Simply beat an egg white and apply it on your nose with your fingers. Place a 2-ply toilet paper on the area. Allow it to dry completely, and then peel it off. Rinse your face with warm water and pat dry. You can also use unflavored gelatin and onion skin paper. Dissolve the gelatin in hot water or prepare the gelatin as you would prepare any gelatin except for the freezing part. Apply the gelatin mixture on your nose. Tear a piece of onion skin paper and place it on the area. Let it dry completely then remove the paper. Rinse your nose afterward with water.

Another home remedy for your blackheads is tomatoes. Simply slice the tomatoes into various shapes and sizes that would fit well on the contour of your nose. Then wash your face clean with warm water and facial wash. Pat your face dry. Place the pieces of tomatoes on your nose and leave them on for about 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Let your skin rest for a few minutes before applying moisturizer.

Lancet Tool for Blackhead removal

Another way to remove blackheads is to use a blackhead remover lancet tool. This tool is available in most drugstores and is very affordable. Keep in mind to sterilize the lancet tool before using. Place it in rubbing alcohol to sterilize. Clean your nose and the area around it with a wet wipe or a lotion containing salicylic acid. Steam your face over a bowl of hot water for 10 minutes. This will open up your pores and loosen the blackheads from your pores. Retrieve the tool from the alcohol and dry it. Place the loop end of the tool over the blackhead. Push down the lancet gently to squeeze the blackhead out. And once you’re done removing all the other blackheads on your nose, cleanse the area with a lotion with benzoyl peroxide. Rinse and then moisturize.

healthnet federal credit routing code

Long term remedy

If you want a long-term remedy for blackheads, be sure to keep your face clean at all times. Use a facial scrub to dig deep into the pores and remove any excess oils and dirt. A mixture of salt and lime juice makes for a great scrub. Also, avoid squeezing and picking on your blackheads with your fingers. This could lead to infection and scarring.

Heat rash, also known as prickly heat or miliaria, is developed when sweat pores are blocked and the sweat is trapped inside. This leads to swelling and skin irritation marked by tiny red bumps or rashes. Heat rash is very common in babies but it also affects adults who live in areas with hot and humid climates. Aside from the hot temperature, clothing which don’t give room for sweat to evaporate, certain creams, and bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermis are also factors for the development of heat rash. But how long does heat rash last?

How to Treat Heat Rash?

Most cases of heat rash do not require any kind of medication. The rash begins to go away once the skin starts to cool down. Since heat rash is often a temporary condition, within 3 to 4 days, the skin is expected to be completely rash-free already. Most of the heat rashes just heal on their own. To relieve one of the symptoms of heat rash, start by wearing loose clothing and by staying at a cool and shady area. Simply allow the skin to air-dry and avoid scratching the rashes for it will only irritate them further. One may also use, if with an approval of a health professional, calamine lotion or any hydrocortisone cream to help relieve the irritation. Other lotions or ointments should be avoided since they can pose further irritation on the skin. Staying in cool places while wearing breezy clothes and limiting strenuous activities, will eventually ease heat rash and prevent any recurrences.

After 4 Days of Heat Rash!

However, if the rash does not seem to go away or if it gets worse after 4 days, then watch out for other symptoms of infection such as dizziness, nausea, rapid pulse, and fever or chills. When these symptoms are observed, apart from the usual itchiness and redness, then seeing a doctor is the best option. However, when these symptoms aren’t even present, then one should not worry too much about getting heat rash since it does not usually require any medication and can also be easily prevented. One should just basically know if he or she is at any risk of having heat rash.

healthnet federal credit routing code

Causes of Hear Rash

Adults who are most commonly affected by heat rash are people often exposed to the outdoors and great heat. Also, people who wear tight or heavy clothing with no room for air are also at risk of having heat rash. Definitely, people who live in hot places with humid conditions and those who are severely sunburned are also at risk. People who also drink alcohol are more probably going to develop heat rash compared with those who don’t. Individuals who suffer from obesity may also develop heat rash because of the folds of skin that trap heat. Individuals with other diseases and conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and cystic fibrosis may also develop rash. And individuals under certain medications that include antipsychotic drugs, and/or medications having anticholinergic effects, are also prone to developing heat rash.

Most of us are not brave enough to get a permanent tattoo. And so we resort to using henna instead. But sometimes, things can go out of hand. You may end up with a design you don’t really like or you may simply have lost interest in it after some time. Or it could have been too much of a disaster and now you are left with nothing but mess on your skin. But don’t you worry about it. All you have to do is follow some of these simple tips on how to remove henna from your skin

healthnet federal credit routing code

and you won’t have to deal with it again.

The good thing about getting a henna tattoo is that it wears after a few weeks. It is not permanent and as the skin naturally sheds off the old dead cells, the henna comes off with them too. The length of time it takes for henna to come off is usually at around 2 to 4 weeks. However, if 2 to 4 weeks is too long for you and you can’t wait to get rid of it, here are some tips you could try to remove henna from your skin faster.

One good way to get the henna off your skin is by cleaning. And a good way to clean your skin is to exfoliate using scrubs. There are quite a number of soap scrubs available in the market today. They all have different scents and various offers for your skin. But you have to be careful in choosing the right scrub for you. Some scrubs may tend to be too tough on your skin, leading to rashes and irritation. So, when you have the perfect scrub, simply rub it over the tattooed area. Keep using your scrub until the henna comes off.

You can also make your own scrub instead of buying one. Just mix some milk and gram flour. Use this like any other scrub.

Another excellent way to remove henna from your skin fast is to apply some olive oil. Oil can fade henna tattoos. Just apply the oil liberally on the tattoo. For better and faster results, you may want to mix olive oil with other natural oils. Let the skin absorb the oil first before washing it away.

Sweating is also a great way to get rid of your henna tattoo. Sweat contains a lot of salt and other components that lessen the appearance of the tattoo. You don’t have to anywhere to buy anything. All you have to do is get physical. Do something that can make you sweat, like exercising or staying in some warm place.

Warm water also helps remove henna from your skin. Just take a hot bath and soak up for about 20 minutes. You can also add some salt scrub into the water and use an exfoliating mitt while in the water.

Rough skin removers are also very helpful in removing henna from your skin. Just apply the remover on the area. But you have to check first for any allergic reactions to it.

These should not be neglected, although these are usually benign offshoots. Yet, there is no need to worry as these will not do harm to your health. However, these are sources of insecurity to others as these will ruin the appearance of their skin.

Thus, it is important that you get the best natural skin tag remover. Examples of effective remedies would be the thread, liquid bandage and scissors methods. These are great removers; however, these still entail advantages and disadvantages. Hence, it is important that you carefully analyze these procedures before you decide which one you would settle for.

You would cut off the supply of blood to the skin tag with the thread method. You just have to tie the tag with a thread; and in a matter of days, these will fall off, without much pain. It is important to tie the thread firmly and tightly to produce the desired results. Two knots with the thread will make sure that it is tight enough; then cut off the extra thread.

You can make use of the scissors method is the one for you if you want faster results. However, this will be painful to do. Although a complicated method, this is still effective.

First, with the use of alcohol, the scissors should be sterilized. With the use of alcohol, cleaning the area around the skin tag is also important. Applying cold ice can also be helpful to make the skin a bit numb. This skin tag remover will cause a stinging sensation. However, it will not hurt much because of the presence of ice.

There are several tattoo removal options out there in the market and the choice boils down to one factor – effectivity. Tattoo removal creams have been around and they claim to get rid of the tattoo in just one application a day. But some consumers say that they just fade the mark and it does not actually erase it. Some methods are dangerous like salabrasion, an old fashioned way to remove the tattoo in which salt is rubbed on the design until it disappears. It causes open wounds and scarring. It could also lead to skin infection if not treated properly. The removal of the tattoo is excruciatingly painful and the ordeal is repeated until the mark is gone.

The use of laser in dermatology is not new. It is used in facials and scar treatment. It is expensive because the equipment used is state of the art. A low powered laser pulse is used to dissolve ink particles. An anesthetic is applied to the area so the patient does not feel a thing. It takes several sessions with a months interval if the tattoo covers a large portion of the body and if the tattoo old.

healthnet federal credit routing code

After the removal of the tattoo, patients are asked to wear sun block to shield the skin from the harmful UV rays do that it could heal well. They are advised too not to move the area much to avoid injury on the treated area. Post-care and regular checkups after the treatment is likewise needed in order to evaluate if you are totally eradicating your tattoo or if you have further complications.

Laser tattoo removal might be the safest and most effective way on how to get rid of unwanted marks but you must always remember to think twice or even a dozen times before you get a tattoo. It costs more to get rid of it than to get it in the first place.

Sexually transmitted infections are one of the most common infections that a lot of persons around the world have. Sexually transmitted infections are caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microscopic organisms. Unfortunately, our body can’t create strong immunity to these infections thus there is a possibility of acquiring it again even if you’re done with the treatment. Information dissemination is very important so that people will be aware of the proper way of preventing and managing these kinds of infections. Ironically, some of the common sexually transmitted infections are not well expounded like bacterial vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis is basically an infection in the vagina usually caused by a bacteria namely Gardnerella vaginalis. It is a local infection wherein the person will experience signs and symptoms such as vaginal irritation that can be intense. Accompanied by this irritation is malodorous, specifically fishy odor, grayish vaginal discharges. Treatment for bacterial vaginosis is through oral intake of metronidazole for a specified length of days. This treatment should be strictly followed to prevent any undesirable results and to obtain the right effects of the treatment. But there are some instances that metronidazole is not prescribed such as if the person is pregnant.

healthnet federal credit routing code

Pregnant women should not take metronidazole because of the adverse effects of the drug to the fetus. As an alternative, pregnant women are prescribed topical vaginal creams for them to use.

Antibiotic treatments should not be stopped even if the signs and symptoms subside, because these kinds of treatments are not for the signs and symptoms but it is for the causative agent itself. Bacteria have the tendency to adapt to medications that they are exposed to, rendering that same medication to have no effect on the bacteria and a greater probability of acquiring recurrent bacterial vaginosis. If this happens, then the medical doctor will prescribe a much stronger kind of antibiotic.

Throughout the duration of the treatment, it is recommended to use protective barrier like condoms during sexual intercourse. It is also highly recommended to do abstinence. This will ensure that the said disease will not spread.
