Before we can get an understanding of the DSM criteria for bipolar disorder, it is important for us to learn first what the meaning of the condition bipolar disorder is. Bipolar disorder is a condition that exhibits more than wild mood swings. However, this is not simply a situation of a person where he or she is “hot” one day and then “cold” the next day. In fact, bipolar disorder is already classified by psychiatrists and other mental health experts as an actual disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders IV or otherwise known as the DSM-IV TR. So what are the DSM criteria for bipolar disorder?

More about Bipolar Disorder

Understanding the technical aspects of the bipolar condition will allow us to recognize the signs and as well

as the symptoms of the disorder aside from the obvious mood swings. The DSM IV TR characterizes the Bipolar Disorder as a type of condition which the patients have significant mood changes that usually last from weeks to months at a time. Patients will usually experience at least one manic episode where the mood is described as elevated; and is followed by a period of normalcy or balance for at least 2 months. After this time frame, the patient will also experience an onset of major depressive episode. However, we should be aware that the mood changes caused by bipolar disorder are different from the ones exhibited by schizophrenia, psychotic disorder, delusion disorder and schizoaffective disorder. Aside from this, the mood disorder is also different from the one caused by substance abuse or consumption such as sleeping pills and as well as prescribed amphetamines.

The patient with bipolar disorder experience manic episodes where the mood is said to be elevated. This can show high levels of energy, difficulty in focusing on one project and as well as the presence of many physical and as well as sexual activity. Because of this condition, some patients experiencing manic episodes are required to undergo hospitalization in order to protect not just the patient but as well as other people that can be harmed. Nevertheless, when the depressed mood sets in, patients will encounter little to no energy even in completing the basic of the daily tasks. Patients can also be filled with guilt, self doubt and as well as thoughts of death or suicidal ideation. The DSM-IV reports that approximately 10 to 15% of the bipolar patient’s complete suicide. On the other hand, the manic and the depressed phases can last for as long as 3 weeks.

Understanding the Subtypes

There are actually subtypes of bipolar disorder. Bipolar 2 Disorder tends to show patients that are incapable of reaching full-on manic stage. However, they experience hypomanic episode where the mood is elevated and as well as the energy but are more easily controlled. Nevertheless, bipolar 2 patients also experience longer or chronic depressed episodes. On the other hand the Rapid Cycling Bipolar Disorder patients will experience at least 4 changes in episodes within the timeframe of 1 year. Mood swings that happen in a day are usually referred to as ultra-ultra rapid cycling.

These are some of the facts with regards to the bipolar disorder and the DSM Criteria.

There are a lot of people who resort to cutting themselves due to several different reasons. Nowadays, self cutting is intentionally done by almost 1% of the total population of Americans. This includes habitual and deliberate causing of injuries or pain by means of cutting oneself. This is also considered an addiction, which is also classified as impulsive and repetitive. Other medical terms that can be used to describe this type of condition are self harm, self injury, self mutilation or even self abuse. But the question is why do people cut themselves?

Reasons behind self cutting

There are actually many factors that can cause a person to do self cutting. Below are some of the most common reasons why this particular act is being done not just in America, but as well as across the globe.

Cutting Disorder – this is actually one of the most common reasons why people tend to cut themselves. A cutting disorder is usually a result from severe depression where it is being done during the peak of one’s sorrow. Seeing themselves bleed reminds them that they are still capable of having feelings or emotions and are still very much alive.

A Way to Call for Help – cutting is considered by some people as a way to get the help of others. This act enables them to seek for someone who would take care for them and give them a reason to live or survive.

To Seek for Attention – Most people, especially the teens, cut themselves in order to get attention. Just like a call for help, self cutting also seeks for attention from other people in the hope that someone will look out for them. Most of these people who do self cutting would also want to place guilt to others just to make them feel bad about themselves.

To Gain Control – self cutting also allows to people to gain control over their lives as well as in others. This is one way for them to let others know that they are still in charge of something. Seeing the blood as well as feeling the pain allows them to see that they can still control one thing, which also plays as a positive reinforcement.

To Show Love – many people believe the cutting themselves or carving the name/s of their love one/s is a good way of showing heir care and affection. This also shows that no pain is able to surmount the love they have for the person.

healthnet federal credit routing code

A lot of people also believe that self cutting is a very sweet and caring move or effort for the person.

Serve as a Prevention of Stress – Cutting is considered by some as an effective way to relieve stress since it causes the body to release chemicals called endorphins in order to ease up the stress and as well as the physical and emotional pain.

It is Pleasant in the Eyes – This may sound really crazy but some people are very attracted to how a cut looks on their body. Others may also find it very cool, which is why many submit themselves for tattooing.

Because They Feel they Deserve It – when some people feel guilty, they usually inflict pain or injury to themselves in order to compensate with their conscience or guilt after making a wrong decision or action. One of the usual things that they do is to do self cutting.

Loves the Feeling of Pain – Some people are in love with the feeling of pain. Some of the most common examples of this are the masochists. Cutting themselves can definitely cause them pain, which is something that they find pleasurable.

Due to Dissociative Identity Disorder – this is a type of disorder that involves having multiple personalities. This condition actually causes people to seek for a way in order to surpass all the problems and pain that they are encountering and some of them find self-cutting to be one of the effective means in order to become relieved of all their stresses in life.

These are just some of the common reasons as to why some people cut themselves intentionally. Some of the reasons may sound very absurd and ridiculous, but the truth is, there are already many people suffering because these reasons.

Some people are great at mathematical concepts. They are able to understand and comprehend scientific theories. Others excel in the arts. They work well in expressing themselves through drawings, paintings, sculptures, and the languages. There are also those who are talented musicians, dancers, and actors, while some others are devoted to solving puzzles and math problems and analyzing chemical substances. All of these different things that people become good at or interested in depend on how one uses his/her brain.

The brain is divided into two. If you look at a model or an image of the brain, you can see that it looks symmetrical. It is divided in half, the left side and

healthnet federal credit routing code

the right side. It is said that how good you are at certain things actually depends on which side of the brain you use because the two sides have different functions. And if you are visually creative or into the arts, you are most likely using the right side of your brain more than the left side. But what does the right side of the brain control?

What is Controlled by the Right side of the Brain?

The right and left hemispheres of the brain work oppositely. The right side of the brain controls the left side of your body. And the left hemisphere controls the right side of your body. Not only are the muscles in your body controlled in this manner, but also your senses. Sensory information from the left side of the body is sent to the right side of the brain and the information from the right side of the body is sent to the left side of the brain.

As stated earlier, your abilities and strengths depend on which side of the brain you use more. People who use the right side of their brain more than their left hemisphere have high spatial abilities. They are also good in face recognition, visual imagery, and music. These are all because of the functions of the right side of the brain.

Functions of the right hemisphere of the brain other than controlling the left side of the body include: knowing body position, putting pieces of information together to build a whole picture, understanding and remembering the things we see and do, and judging the position or location of things in space. And this is why people with a dominant right hemisphere are good visual imagery and spatial perception.

Other functions of the right brain are use of feelings, imagination, symbols, and images. People with a dominant right brain tend to be believers and risk takers. They think about the present and future more than they do of the past. They present possibilities and can get the meaning of things. Their thoughts trail on fantasy, philosophy, and religion. They are also more keen on seeing the whole picture rather than look into the details. In general, people who are right-brain dominant are thought of as creative people.

The world is always in motion. It brings about many increasing tests that challenge your ability to overcome obstacles, and your desire to thrive. It does not matter whether it is in your personal life or sports.

healthnet federal credit routing code

Competition is tougher than ever before, and there are fewer opportunities, and many more obstacles in your path. Many people have the advantage over most of the people who compete, even before they the competition starts. You need to be the one to score first in order to have the upper hand. Brain training can give you the edge not only in Sports, but in all walks of life.

You need to out smart your competition if you desire to be the one who comes out ahead. Sheer muscle just will not do it. It is time to change the focus and begin to train our brain.

There are many benefits of brain training and many ways to do it. Word puzzles, meditation, or doing memory exercises are good ways but unfortunately, they take too long to show results. Brainwave training is an alternative way to traditional brain training.

What is actually important concerning brainwaves, in relationship to brain training, is that the stimuli from the outside like light and sound to reshape your brainwaves. This can go to such a level; it causes states of relaxation, productivity, and creativity to occur simply by inducing stimulus to your brainwaves. This means you actually could become much smarter, more productive and more, just because of brainwave training.

Because of this type of training, you do not have to be a master at meditating techniques in order to have complete control over your brainwaves. Maybe you want to spend a long time with a guru who is very enlightened, or perhaps a yogi expert who could tech you about the art of meditating. If you learn how to completely learn brainwave training, you will have control within about six months.

There is a fundamental difference between education psychology and school psychology. Although both names sound a bit similar, these two careers in psychology are different. Education psychologist is concerned about analyzing data to find ways of improving student achievement and class instruction. On the other hand, a school psychology is based upon interaction with students, parents and instructors as well. What does a school psychologist do?

1. Interacts with students (elementary or secondary school)

2. Works with teachers/parents

3. Targets behavioral and learning problems

4. Work on improving the learning environment

Education and Courses

In order to become a school psychologist, you need a specialist degree. This is required in most states all across the country. A typical online psychology degree lasts around three years. It is mandatory to have an entire year of internship in order to observe and learn from an experienced school psychologist.

Where does a school psychology work?

School psychologists work in a many different places, usually in an educational setting such as schools or any other educational institutions. You can also find a school psychologist in clinics, mental health facilities and hospitals.

Selecting the Best Psychology Degree Program!

There is a big number of school psychology programs that you can choose from. This can be kind of frustrating when you are about to choose the best program for

you. That’s why you need to know the criteria of a good program. Make sure that the program includes at least an aspect of philosophy as it is very important to understand the basics of psychology. It is essential for you that the program is accredited by the state too. Advantages of online degrees

Those who have occupations other than studying, such as taking care of their family or already have another job can start a school psychology program through an online university or college. It gives your studying time more flexibility and you don’t need to be physically present there.

School Psychology Careers and Salary

How much a school psychologist can earn solely depends on their degree and how many hours they work. Generally speaking, such psychologists are usually well paid and the employment demand is rapidly increasing. Studies have shown that school psychology will be one of the fasted growing careers before 2014.

It is terrible to suffer from panic attacks. Those who have suffered know the pain, fear and embarrassment it brings with it. Surprisingly, panic attacks do not result into death; but it is as scary as death. Stress is found to be the one of the major and most common cause. Stress is inevitable in the society we live. We are inclined towards more materialistic and artificial way of life. To relieve ourselves from stress can be done effectively by bridging the connection with our source.

Mainstream therapies and Allopath don’t treat the cause, they just remove the symptoms. Overcoming panic attacks completely from roots should be done with natural therapies which not only cure the disorder but also enable us to live better and healthy life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: One can resort to CBT to cure panic attacks. Basic principle behind CBT is based on theory of repetition. Through repetition of certain action or reaction in mentally imagined condition will create new neural pathways in brain to extract same response in real situation. Though it takes time, it is very effective treatment for mind to train itself to react calmly in difficult circumstances.

Hypnotherapy: Hypnosis is an act of bypassing critical faculty and suggesting subconscious mind with positive messages in altered state of awareness. Mostly, it is done in alpha or theta frequency state of mind. For self hypnosis one can use brainwave entrainment programs like Hemisync and Quantum Mind Power without any need of expert hypnotist. Subject can be deprogrammed from old beliefs, thinking patterns and behaviors that trigger the panic button. New positive suggestions and responses can be implanted to tackle difficult situations diligently and effectively.

Meditation: Meditation is the only solution to possibly connect us with our true self. All mental disorders and disease disappear when meditation brines light of awareness in our lives. Our world is going farther and farther from peace and serenity which is the quality of our true self. In mediation, when mind is completely silent, real peace emerges. It is the ultimate joy and truly out of the world experience. There are many books and audio visual programs easily available relating to breathing, light, sound and chakra meditation for beginners. One should learn and practice meditation daily for living peaceful

Work burn-out is a real thing. Sometimes when everything seem too easy or at some point there is less challenge in doing what a person normally does, then that person experiences a “breaking away” from his or her routine to say “enough is enough”.

Though resigning is no longer a choice nowadays (and sometimes even going to depression treatment centers), and because it gets harder each day to get a job that is stable enough to provide payment for bills and other needs, burn-outs can be a huge headache.

When Motivation Runs Dry- Beating Depression before it Beats You

Depression in the workplace often spreads like fire. It is brought about by difficult economic situations like recession, or reasons like lack of promotions and being overqualified for a job. Long time employees oftentimes feel that work has already sucked out the life out of them that work becomes a pain more than a pleasure.

On the other hand, work overload may also result in the same thing. A person ends up with high stress level when a manager over manages and delegates more than what is deliverable. There are no quick solutions on how to overcome depression in the workplace. However, since losing the job is not an option, a person may opt to look for many other ways outside of the workplace to fill in the gaps or the lack of excitement in the work life. After all, there is life after the work shift.

Workplace Depression may mean Huge Losses to the Company

Employers are also affected with employees who are depressed. Performance drops, sales figures slow down, but costs to run the business are still getting higher. They also face the challenge of solving how to overcome depression with very little budget on human resource trainings and enhancement. How else could you stir action from a log that has not been “moved”? The task of reinventing a person after so many trainings and retraining can also put a lot of stress to the company. Mass resignations as a result of unhappy workplace can also hurt the economy badly. Nowadays, employers resort to a rotation of work assignments to create challenge and to broaden the skill set of employees. Letting them go is probably the least option due to the high cost of investment employees get from the day they get hired on day 1. Otherwise it is time to revisit the applicant pools on online manpower databases.

Increase your chance of winning the fight against depression by heading over to my depression hurts.

We spend an average of 1/3 of our day at work. If you’re stressed out while you’re at work, you’re spending the majority of your life getting paid to reduce the quality and quantity of your life. Seriously, are you getting paid enough for that?

Seek Out Ways To Reduce Your Stress

Take the time out of your day to discover stress reduction techniques that will help to calm you during the work day. You’ll be surprised and delighted by how easy some of these techniques can be to apply to your situation. Best part of all, they’re also very effective. Here are a few to begin with:

* Upon arriving at work, check your personal “baggage” from home at the door. Your employer is paying you to bring a quality work ethic to your job. If you’re spending all day worrying about what’s going on in your personal life, outside of work, then you’re not doing your best work for the guy that’s paying you. Think of your work environment as a great place to take a vacation from your worries that don’t involve work. Personal matters can be very taxing. Give yourself permission to shut off the personal stuff until you get off work. That way, you get to have a little reprieve from life’s constant battery of issues. Work is for work – check your personal issues at the door. It’ll benefit both you AND your employer.

*When you’re beginning to get overwhelmed or stressed out during your work day step away from your desk and change your scenery for a moment. Even if your only option is to go and use the bathroom! Plus, while you’re in the bathroom, smile at yourself in the mirror. No joking, it works to reduce your stress levels. Give it a try tomorrow!
*Always, always, always leave your desk during your lunch break. Your mind needs a diversion and your body needs some activity. The absolute best-case scenario is if you can get outdoors during your lunch break. Take a brisk walk, rain or shine. No matter how short your walk is, by the time you get back to your desk you will feel refreshed and ready to start the second part of your day.

*Make stress reduction a regular part of your work day activities. Life is too short to spend part it being so stressed at work. It’s within your power to alleviate your stress to a large degree. Search for the techniques that will best help you.

A panic attack most probably occurs without any apparent source or cause that could lead you to such extreme levels of fear. The panic attacks are simply the antics your mind is playing. They are the results of your own thinking. So, it is best to treat your very mind in order to overcome panic attacks and panic disorder.

Very aptly defined, a panic attack is nothing but the anxiety sensations which your body experiences which are drastically misinterpreted by your brain with catastrophic implications of the same. Your mind leads you to think that you are in grave danger, when in actuality you are not, thereby adding to your anxiety, which augments your sensations leading to frightening thoughts. All these result into a cataclysmic effect, one that of a panic attack. The root of the problem here is the misunderstood and unnecessary belief of you being in danger. This panic results out of this belief, because that is the natural reaction to anything that might be life threatening. The problem can be averted at its root by simply mastering your beliefs and fear or panic.

This mastery can be achieved by treating your panic disorder or panic attacks with cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) works towards changing your thinking and behavioral patterns, and is a very efficient technique to treat anxiety and the symptoms of panic attacks. CBT can be essentially divided into two separate elements viz.

healthnet federal credit routing code

cognitive and behavior therapy.

Cognitive therapy involves monitoring and training the panic attack victims to read and process their thoughts, their thinking patterns and realize their folly of grossly misinterpreting the signals and events, which eventually result in the negative reactions which lead to your losing all control of your sensibilities, what we call as panic.

Behavior therapy treats your way of reacting to signals and impulses and the surrounding situations that lead to extreme anxiety. The aim is to separate the feeling or the event from the bodily reaction or symptom. Behavior therapy also targets to teach the patient how to relax mentally as well as physically.

In the process of these treatments, it is you who is treating yourself here. The doctors or the therapists are only guiding you to perform certain tasks. This way, by working on yourself, CBT is a great way of taking the reins of your condition into your own hands and the progress that you make towards improvement, will be therefore, permanent.

Today, CBT is a widely and popularly applied psychotherapy to treat people for anxiety and panic attack symptoms. It is given as a first-line treatment for panic disorders. With CBT, you can expect guaranteed improvement of about 80 percent, as long as the therapy is applied appropriately.

With CBT strategies, the patient is treated to overcome the extreme fears and coping with when the fear grips you. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of the best ways of treating and coping with panic attacks and disorders that we have today.

I’m sure by now that almost everyone has seen the commercial – depression hurts. Its true, it does. Depression hurts on so many more levels than just your emotions. Depression doesn’t have to keep hurting though. You can begin overcoming depression.

Unfortunately there is still a massive stigma associated with depression despite the marketing efforts of pharmaceutical companies over the last few years. Antidepressants can be effective for many, but more and more research is showing that in order to overcome depression in the long run, we need more. In fact, the most recent studies are showing that antidepressants

are not working as advertised in the majority of cases in which they are prescribed.

Pills aren’t the answer for depression in the long run. They may help in the moment to provide the extra energy you need to start getting help. what they don’t do is make lasting changes to the underlying causes of depression. True emotional wellbeing will only come when you alter and change the reasons for the depression.

A majority of adults will face depression at one point of their lives or another. Some will be able to manage it effectively based on their resilience and healthy relationships that they have build in their lives. Others will continue to suffer from chronic depression despite their relationships, resilience, or any other factor. From the outside looking in, we don’t always know why one person can overcome depression seemingly on their own while another gets stuck in the rut day after day.

We have, however, gotten very good at treating depression over the years. The reason for this is because so many people suffer from it at one point or another in their lives. You can begin overcoming depression on your own. If you find that your efforts are not enough or aren’t working fast enough for you, help is always available from a professional who is ethically bound to maintain your confidentiality.
